UNBLOCK FAQs

Everything you need to know before booking. Still stuck? Get on the list from the UNBLOCK page and we'll follow up directly.

About UNBLOCK

Is UNBLOCK a writing retreat or a creative retreat?

Both. UNBLOCK is a writing retreat in Cornwall for authors, aspiring writers and creatives who want dedicated time on a meaningful project: a novel, a newsletter, or another creative idea.

Is this a writing course?

No. We won't be analysing grammar, story structure or publishing strategies. Instead, we create the conditions that help you actually do the work: dedicated writing time, guided workshops, mindfulness, community and accountability.

What kind of projects can I bring?

Anything creative: a novel, poetry, essays, a Substack, a screenplay, a business idea. If you've been saying "I'll get to it one day," this retreat is for you.

Is UNBLOCK suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. You don't need to be a published author or even call yourself a writer, just a creative project you've been meaning to start or continue.

Is this retreat only for English speakers?

The retreat is hosted in English. Both hosts are German native speakers and can also review German-language texts, so you're welcome to work in German or another language too.

What you get

What is included?

7 nights at Froomies Co-Living, guided writing workshops, dedicated writing time every day, Heart Answers® meditation and mindfulness sessions, small group feedback sessions, full access to the indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and gym, beautiful shared writing spaces, a fully equipped shared kitchen, tea and coffee all day, a small group of fellow creatives, and pick-up from Lostwithiel station if needed.

What isn't included?

Meals and travel. Guests share fully equipped kitchens and often cook and eat together, a big part of the Froomies community spirit, though you're free to cook and eat separately too. Flights, trains, travel insurance and groceries aren't included, and this is a self-catering retreat.

The retreat experience

Can I come alone?

Absolutely, and most people probably will. By the end of the week, you'll have spent eight days creating, eating, walking and celebrating progress together. You can also bring a partner or friend, ask us about the "bring a friend" deal.

What does a typical day actually look like?

Mornings with meditation, uninterrupted writing blocks and group feedback, walks through the Cornish countryside, evenings around the fire and time in the hot tub or sauna. No rushed schedule, no pressure, just enough structure to get your work onto the page.

Do I have to share my writing?

No. Sharing is always optional. Many participants enjoy the group feedback, but there's never any pressure to read your work aloud.

Where will we write?

Workshops gather around a large communal table in the main cottage. Between sessions, write wherever inspiration strikes: by the fireplace, in a cozy living room, or tucked in a quiet corner.

Why choose a writing retreat in Cornwall?

Space. Dramatic coastlines, peaceful countryside, and a slower pace of life, the ideal setting to disconnect from distractions and reconnect with your creativity.

Can I explore Cornwall during the retreat?

Absolutely. Alongside the structured sessions there's plenty of free time for a beach walk, a local café, or an afternoon by the fire.

Food & drink

How do meals work?

UNBLOCK is self-catered, but you're not cooking every night. Guests can join a shared dinner rota: you cook once during the week, and someone else cooks on the other evenings. Prefer to cook separately or eat out sometimes? Completely up to you.

How do I get groceries?

You can order groceries online before the retreat so they're waiting when you arrive. To top up, Lostwithiel is a 20-minute walk or 3-minute drive away, with a supermarket, cafés, bakeries and pubs.

Staying at Froomies

Where will I stay?

One of Froomies' stone cottages in rural Cornwall, in a private or shared room depending on availability. Every cottage has comfortable communal spaces, a full kitchen, and plenty of cozy corners.

Can I bring my dog or cat?

Yes, Froomies is pet-friendly. Let us know when booking so the right room is reserved for you.

How do I get there?

The closest station is Lostwithiel, we can pick you up there. Trains run regularly, about 5 hours from London or 3 hours from Bristol. You can also come by car for more flexibility.

What is the cancellation policy?

Bookings are non-refundable, but you can transfer your spot to someone else up to 7 days before the retreat starts (subject to approval). If we need to cancel because the minimum of 5 participants isn't reached, we'll let you know at least 45 days out and refund you in full. We recommend travel insurance.
